Story

About this place

South Johnstone Mill rose in the wet tropics south of Innisfail as a central mill for the Johnstone district. A 1930 State Library of Queensland photograph shows the stack and tram approaches that still define the township. After Mourilyan closed following Cyclone Larry (2006), South Johnstone absorbed more district cane; MSF Sugar (Mitr Phol) operates the mill today.
