Echidna Maps started from a simple idea: every place has a story, but most of those stories are hard to find. Old photos, local memories, forgotten names, family stories, work sites, rail lines, old buildings, tracks, mines, farms and landmarks all sit across different archives, books, websites and people’s heads. Echidna Maps brings those stories back to the map. The goal is to make history easier to explore by tying photos, notes and local knowledge to real places. Not as a dry archive, but as something you can open, walk through, add to, and understand. It is built for people who like knowing what happened here before them.

Echidna Maps lets people pin stories, photos and local knowledge to real places. You can explore a map, open a place, and see what happened there before. It might be an old railway tunnel, a family photo, a forgotten building, a work site, a mine, a track, or a local landmark. The idea is simple: put history back where it happened.

Echidna Maps is for anyone who wants to remember, share or discover the stories tied to real places. It could be used by locals, travellers, families, historians, schools, museums, councils, tour guides, photographers, archive groups, old workers, railway fans, mining history people, and anyone who has a story worth putting on the map. If a place means something, Echidna Maps gives it somewhere to live.
