Story
About this place
Mount Kembla Coal and Oil’s private railway reached a 275-metre timber jetty in February 1883, and the first coal left on the Arawata. The photograph shows the trestle, a ship at the head, and a string of hoppers on the deck. This is the southern coalfield’s answer to Newcastle, and it is not the live Wallarah jetty at Catherine Hill Bay. Tag coal, port, jetty and rail.
