Story
About this place
Neames and Wallers built Macknade on the Herbert River floodplain; crushing began in 1874. By about 1930 a State Library of Queensland panorama shows cane trains and office buildings beside the sprawling CSR-era complex near Ingham. Macknade remains one of Wilmar’s north Queensland mills, paired with Victoria Mill a few kilometres inland — together they crush much of the Herbert district’s cane.
