About this place
Historical names: Cairns Hospital. A long, high-set timber building raised on tall stumps in colonial style, with wide verandahs, central stairs and an H-plan arrangement, situated on the foreshore/mangrove edge of the hospital reserve. The 1886 timber hospital was the first permanent building on the land gazetted for hospital purposes in 1886. The hospital has remained on this location, though the original timber building was replaced in 1912.
