Story
About this place
Hurley’s 1935 centenary photographs put a Bucyrus-Erie shovel against the Iron Knob face, dipper spilling broken ore. Between about 1900 and 1960 this hill was Australia’s main iron-ore source, the feed for BHP’s Newcastle furnaces and, from 1941, for Whyalla. No people in the frame.
