Tully Sugar Mill
Government-built central sugar mill at Tully (trial crush 1925), bought by growers as a co-operative in 1931.
After royal-commission lobbying and the Sugar Works Act 1922, the Theodore Queensland government approved a central mill on Banyan Creek. Walkers Ltd (Maryborough) won the build tender (contracts August 1923). Trial crushing began on 5 November 1925 — about 32,000 tonnes of cane for ~3,900 tonnes of raw sugar — and the first full season opened in July 1926. Tully was among the last government-built Queensland mills; growers bought it as a co-operative (Tully Co-operative Sugar Milling Association) in 1931. It operates today as Tully Sugar Limited.
