Hamersley Iron Pty Ltd was formed to develop Hamersley Range hematite, notably Mount Tom Price, and build the Tom Price–Dampier heavy-haul railway and export facilities at Dampier. Historically associated with Rio Tinto / CRA, it began major shipments in the mid-1960s, with Tom Price production commonly dated from 1966. Active mine, rail and port sites are industrial and not casual public access; use public roads, lookouts or authorised tours only.
