Queensland Department of Mines

Historical Queensland government mining department responsible for administration of the pre-1925 Mines Regulation framework, colliery General Rules, inspection and ministerial mining policy. The department context is relevant to the Royal Commission’s recommendations and the 1925 Coal Mining Bill; Mines Minister A. J. Jones explained the Bill in the 22 October 1925 second reading. This record does not claim the Mount Mulligan disaster alone caused the Act: interim rules were made in 1922–23 and the separate Coal Mining Act of 1925 commenced 1 January 1926.
