Mount Mulligan Royal Commission

Ad hoc Queensland Royal Commission appointed 23 September 1921 to inquire into the Mount Mulligan coal mine disaster and methods of mining, and recommend prevention of similar accidents. Commissioners were R. A. Dunlop (chairman), Hon. Charles Kilpatrick M.L.C., and William Want; J. T. H. Bird was secretary. The report was signed 25 November 1921 and tabled 4 July 1922. Its recommendations included a separate collieries statute, competent inspectors, stronger explosives and dust controls, safety-lamp powers, special rules and rescue stations. Queensland later enacted The Coal Mining Act of 1925, after interim General Rules changes in 1922–23.
