Core Principle
Echidna Maps is a community map for explorers and history lovers — built simply, with respect for the places and stories that shaped us. What belongs here Pins should help someone understand a place’s past or living memory. Good fits: historic sites, old infrastructure, landscapes that have changed, community landmarks, work sites, transport, mines, farms, events tied to a location, and personal or family stories grounded in a real place. Usually not a fit: everyday businesses with no historical story, ads, or pins that are only “I’m here” with no context. If you’re unsure, make the story clear — or ask via Contact before posting.
Content Quality Standards
Do: • Be as accurate as you can — real locations, careful facts • Tell the story: what was this place, and why does it matter? • Add dates when you can (even rough ones), and context that helps others • Use clear photos and useful tags • Credit sources and photographers Don’t: • Leave vague or empty descriptions • Use wrong or random locations or dates • Upload blurry, unrelated or duplicate photos • Treat the map like a directory for modern businesses with no historical story Attribution When you use an archive photo or someone else’s image, say where it came from. If you are unsure you have the right to share it, don’t upload it — describe the place in words instead, or link to the source.
Respectful Community Behavior
Do: • Be respectful and assume good intentions • Offer corrections politely (use suggest-edit where you can) • Thank people for contributions Don’t: • Harass, attack or discriminate • Spam, advertise or self-promote • Troll, spread false information, or take credit for others’ work
Legal & Safety Requirements
Do: • Respect property and privacy — no trespassing, no private personal information • Mark access correctly (public, paid, permission required, or private) • Only upload photos/video you have the right to share, and credit others when needed • Note hazards or unsafe conditions when relevant Don’t: • Upload illegal, stolen or unlicensed material • Post private addresses or identifiable photos of people without consent • Share violent, hateful or adult content
Enforcement
Moderation Submissions may be reviewed before or after they appear publicly. Content may be flagged for review when there are accuracy issues, wrong locations or dates, disrespectful behaviour, spam, privacy problems, rights concerns, or content that doesn’t belong on a history map. If something is removed or changed, you can ask about it via Contact. We may request edits, edit or remove content, flag or pause accounts for repeated problems, or permanently suspend/remove accounts for serious breaches. See something that breaks these guidelines?
