Story

About this place

A small timber headframe or windlass stands in a gully under the Middleback scarp, with one distant figure. The History Trust record dates this glass negative “circa 1822”, which cannot be right. It belongs to the same Vaughan series as the ca.1905 Iron Knob hill (GN01825). Use it as an early surface working on the range that later supplied Whyalla, and say the 1822 date is a catalogue error.
